On the 7th of October 2011, The Twinkle Child Foundation held its inaugural Comedy Night, in support of children receiving medical treatment at Manukau Superclinic.
All in all, the event was a great success, with $2000 dollars raised for Manukau Superclinic, which will go towards much needed toys, activities, and medical equipment.
Comedian Jarred Fell kicked off the night with a hilarious performance, and wowed the crowd with some neat magic tricks. The Indian Cultural Group from Auckland Grammar School and St Cuthbert’s College delivered a satirical spoof on culture. A selection of the world’s funniest Youtube videos were played, followed by a comical skit by an array of Crazy Animals including Dorothy the Dinosaur, Peter Rabbit, Tweety Bird, a Lion, a Bear, a Gorilla - and one massive Horse. A parody on the planking phenomenon was received with much laughter and applause from the audience, and to top off the night, the Crazy Animals returned for a dance to the theme of High School Musical.
The Twinkle Child Foundation would like to especially thank the International Travel College of New Zealand for its generous sponsorship of the event.
We would like to extend a big thank you to all the performers, the band PreMixed, our amazing volunteers, school coordinators and The Twinkle Child Foundation Board members who assisted in the planning, organisation and running of the event. The Twinkle Child Foundation is an exclusively student-run charity, with no paid staff, and so the success of the event is a testament to the hard work and outstanding abilities of the students involved.
Thank you also to the University of Auckland Business School, and the Auckland University Student’s Association (with whom The Twinkle Child Foundation is an affiliated club), for providing the venue on the night.
